Tufts Wireless Laboratory (TWL) structure is defined
in the following way:
The director of Tufts Wireless Laboratory (TWL) is the highest hierarchical entity within the Laboratory. The director overlooks all Lab's operations. This includes defining research direction, selecting projects the Laboratory should pursue, choosing conferences and seminars in which Lab should participate in, and closely monitoring the organizational changes within the Laboratory. The director also approves new member applications as well as Lab's fund distribution.
The associate director executes the Laboratory's tasks and goals. The
associate director is responsible for research projects to be
delivered on time, papers to be published as scheduled, members and
researchers to be on track with their projects, sponsors and
affiliates to be regularly briefed on current Laboratory's short and
long term goals. Associate director is also responsible for
Laboratory's media and public relations as well as Lab's staffing.
Members of the laboratory are undergraduate and graduate students at
Tufts University. They are responsible for actively participating in
all Laboratory activities involving Lab organization,
seminar-colloquium-paper preparation, strategic research and project
participation.
Members can also acquire a status of a researcher. Member/Researcher status is granted to members of the Laboratory who are actively involved in one of the Lab's research projects. The Researcher status can also be granted if a member comes up with his/her own research topic. The topic, however, needs to be approved by the Director of the Laboratory.
Affiliates are distinguished professors, industry leaders, Tufts alumni, or just friends of the Laboratory who using their academic, corporate, or research experience are helping shape Laboratory's progress.
Sponsors are corporations, governmental organizations, non-profit organizations, or simply individuals who with their donations help Laboratory stay financially sound and technically well equipped for new projects and challenges.
